I have always yearned to run, but never could. As a child, I can remember struggling through runs in PE class. In my 20s and 30s, I attempted endless strategies to train and struggled just to complete a few miles.
About 3 years ago, I randomly had blood drawn only to discover I was severely anemic. Through the care of a hematologist, I finally gained control of my anemia. In hindsight, I believe I’ve always had low iron levels and I really think it’s why I couldn’t run.
Soon after my bloodwork started to reach normal levels, I decided to give running a go again as COVID was keeping me out of the gym. Miraculously, it went pretty well. Week after week, my mileage increased. I found myself gaining strength, breath control, and distance. The progress has been exhilarating! My current routine is to run twice a week, averaging 5-7 miles at a clip.
I ran into a cousin recently at a family gathering and discovered he was getting back into running. We decided to challenge each other by signing up for a half marathon. This goal would have been unimaginable just a few months ago. I am both excited and nervous at just the thought of it.but nothing ventured, nothing gained!
