Delaney was obsessed with my parents’ dog , Ryleigh, from the moment she met her and wanted a dog of her own since she was old enough to ask for one. Unfortunately, my husband was a hard “no” on all things dog and he did have valid reasons. We already had two cats, we do love to travel, and who was going to take care of the dog? With that being said, I grew up with dogs and really wanted Delaney to as well. Cats are great, but they are very independent and ours were very suspicious of Delaney (with good reason). Dogs are a big responsibility, but I thought Delaney was ready for it. Plus, they teach patience, compassion, and consideration for others. So ,we teamed up and worked on my husband for over a year until he caved. We were finally able to convince him and brought Ruby Lucky Rasmus home on May 2, 2021

She has filled all of our lives with so much light, joy, and happiness. Even my husband loves her. Delaney and I always joke he likes her best. We wanted Delaney to learn the importance of how to care for her and also how to train her so we enrolled Ruby in puppy training class at Petsmart. We worked closely with an amazing instructor named Holly. She really engaged Delaney and caught her attention. One puppy class lead to another, and before we knew it we were invited to enroll Ruby in Therapy dog training. So we did it AND she passed!

We delight in taking her almost everywhere. She is the toast of our town and is practically a celebrity. I mean, once a royal always a royal, right?

Delaney has found a best friend in Ruby. I won’t lie and say she plays a big part in taking care of her (they never do), but I do believe Ruby is teaching her valuable life lessons you can only learn from having a dog. All three of us can agree, we couldn’t imagine our lives without her!
